Dear Friend, Colleagues and Community Stakeholders:

AFCAMP is a grassroots 501-C3 parent run organization whose mission is to educate, inform and support parents raising children with disabilities for the purpose of improving their children’s education and quality of life. We are reaching out to you to seek your support in our effort to continue providing services and advocacy for parent and caregivers raising children with disabilities in the diverse communities of Great Hartford and New Haven. Over the past ten years AFCAMP has:

  • Supported families across the state to effectively advocate for appropriate education services in the Greater Harford, New Haven and Waterbury Public School Systems.
  • Provided training, outreach and awareness to more than 2,000 families, community members, and other stakeholders on the impact of inappropriate services provided to children with disabilities and the associated at risk of involvement in the mental health, child welfare and juvenile justice system.
  • Raided awareness and advocated for diversion programs to prevent children and youth with disabilities from unnecessarily entering the juvenile justice system, which led to the creation of the Hartford Juvenile Review Board (JRB). The model was replicated in New Haven and Bridgeport communities at the request of the Governor with funding to implement them.
  • Developed a Crisis Response Plan for the City of Hartford to respond to victims of youth violence in the city.
  • Trained the most parents and diverse groups of stakeholders to participate in system reform efforts across the state and systems.

AFCAMP delivers services and expertise to multiple providers and systems in the state and nationally. The organization in the past 5 years has expanded our services and expertise across the state as well as participation in several national initiatives relating to education, juvenile justice, child welfare, health and mental health. It is for this reason that we request your assistance to support AFCAMP to be able to continue the extraordinary work that the organization and parents have done for the past 10 years.

We ask that you make a contribution in the form of:

  • Adopt- A- Family Program: You will be matched to a family and will be forwarded a brief family profile and wish list;
    If you are interested in this we ask you notify us no later than November 20, 2010.
  • $50-$100 toward AFCAMP general program support
  • $1,000-$6,000 to sponsor a monthly support group and training for one year in a particular Community; or towards our fundraising activities.

Your contribution is tax deductable and greatly appreciated. Our United Way campaign number is 192034 or you can also make a pledge by following the link below.

Funds raised will directly benefit AFCAMP families by continuing to provide information, education training, support and advocacy for families in their communities across the state.
